Key Trends and Products Shaping the Future of the UK Coffee Industry.
London Coffee Festival (LCF) is the premier event of the year for the UK coffee industry. With more than 250 artisan coffee and gourmet food stalls, as well as tastings and demonstrations from world-class baristas, and interactive workshops, it’s a must-attend event for anyone passionate about coffee.
This year, the Matthew Algie team made the trip to London to participate in the festival. Our team was excited to catch up on the latest industry trends and innovations and to showcase our products at our stall in the La Marzocco Roasters Village.
As a leading coffee supplier in the UK, we are committed to providing high-quality coffee products and exceptional customer service. Our team was thrilled to be a part of LCF, which provided us with the opportunity to connect with other industry leaders, share our knowledge and experience, and learn from others.
Key Trends
The coffee market is an ever-evolving industry, and as
consumer tastes and habits change, the need for product development and
innovation has become increasingly important. At LCF 23, we identified some key
trends that are driving the coffee market towards a healthier and more
sustainable future.

Sustainability |
Many manufacturers showcased their vegan, plant-based, organic, and gluten-free coffee products, catering to a growing demand for healthy and sustainable options. This trend also extended to food options, with many manufacturers promoting the nutritional benefits of their products, including less sugar, no artificial sweeteners, and milk alternatives. | Another trend we observed was the strong presence of superfoods, such as turmeric, chai, Matcha, and kefir. These ingredients have been gaining popularity in recent years due to their perceived health benefits, and we saw many coffee manufacturers incorporating them into their products. | Furthermore, there was a noticeable push towards sustainability in the coffee industry. Multiple manufacturers showcased their commitment to reducing waste by promoting sustainable packaging options, including recycled and compostable papers, biodegradable bags, and laminates. This is an essential step towards making the coffee industry more environmentally friendly, as packaging waste is a significant contributor to the global waste crisis. |

Product Innovations from Heylo
Over the decades, the espresso machine has seen countless technological refinements since its invention in the late 1800s. These refinements have led to improved machine reliability, user-friendliness, and of course, consistency of coffee extraction. Despite these advancements, the core system design of many commercial espresso machines has remained unchanged. The majority of these machines still use boiler systems to heat water and create steam.
Introducing Heylo, a pioneering company at LCF 23, that showcased their groundbreaking coffee system that uses Induction technology, eliminating the need for a boiler.
Induction technology means instant hot water and energy saving. Unlike a conventional boiler-based machine, Heylo’s coffee system heats water on demand resulting in minimal energy consumption.
Heylo’s modular design features separate coffee and milk units, enabling users to customize their workspace and maximize functionality. The flexibility of the design allows for easy module swapping or adding, allowing you to create a coffee setup that suits your specific needs. Each module is also equipped with intelligent technology that offers users full control over every brewing parameter, enabling them to create custom pre-sets for optimal coffee extraction.

It was fascinating to witness the technology demonstrated by Heylo and to understand the potential of their induction innovations, and it was fantastic to see Heylo serving our Peak & Wild coffee at their stand! Finally, observing a wide range of products from producers all around the world provides us with an important baseline for identifying key trends within the industry.
