About Matthew Algie

We’re born and bred in Glasgow. Our business was founded on the Clyde back in 1864, and we’re still here today. We are proud to roast exceptional coffee for thousands of cafés and hospitality businesses across the UK & Ireland.

Our workforce has grown to over 250 to support our expanding customer base, product range and service offering. We count some of the industry’s leading talents among our staff, from green coffee buyers and roasting technicians, to barista trainers and field engineers.

We work together with a shared mission, to help coffee shops thrive. Now more than ever, this our driving passion.

“In 2000 Esquires Coffee, with its roots firmly established in Vancouver, established a presence in both the UK and Ireland. A critical decision for the company was to select the right coffee partners who shared the same passion, ethos and values in terms of quality, sustainability and great tasting coffee. After extensive research, we chose Matthie Algie as our coffee partners and 20 years on the guiding principles that led us to this decision continues to this day. From their state of the art Roastery with cutting edge technology and the sustainability programmes they operate through their Fairtrade and Organic principles that produce such amazing bespoke blends for Esquires right through to their expertise on the ground to all our outlets is a crucial factor in our ongoing success in the marketplaces we operate in.”
