Our Environment

Climate change is having a damaging effect on global coffee production. It can result in lower yields, higher production costs and poorer quality coffee cherries. We have seen the impact of these first-hand, with drastic consequences for our producer partners. This is why Matthew Algie has taken a proactive approach to address climate change in every relevant area of our operations.

  • We’re reusing, refurbishing and recycling machines, parts and packaging where we can.
  • We’re increasing the number of electric vehicles in our fleet.
  • We are committed to procuring deforestation-free products and supporting the prevention of illegal deforestation across our supply chains by 2030.
  • Our Glasgow roastery is a zero waste to landfill site. Working with One Carbon World, we verified our carbon footprint methodology and results, and offset our emissions by purchasing certified credits from a tree planting project in Uruguay and a wind energy project in India. As a result, we are proud to be the first roastery in the world to achieve the Carbon Neutral Gold Standard.
