We’ve not temporarily lost our sanity – or had a nasty blow to the head. In fact, there’s a serious point behind the headline: the art of helping people understand how different coffees taste, smell and feel.
It’s about allowing our customers to decide which espresso or filter coffee is right for them. In the past, our account team had to rely, in the main, on their descriptive powers. |
 | Our coffee fingerprint packs will change all that. We’ve developed a specialised consumer vocabulary to describe espresso and filter coffee – each demands a different approach. Then our sensory panel (tasters to you and me) plot each coffee’s taste against a ‘wheel’. And when you join these points up, you’ve got a coffee fingerprint.
The nifty bit comes when you want to compare coffees. As the blend fingerprints are printed on acetate, it’s simple to lay one on top of another – allowing you to see the differences.
We’re pretty sure this project is a first in the coffee industry, which has seen us work in partnership with the University of Strathclyde. It’s also part of our wider work on the sensory analysis of coffee, something we know is unique in the industry.
Then again, what did you expect?
