Healthy Families Project, Honduras
Wednesday, October 19, 2016 |
Earlier this year we told you about a project we are funding in Honduras called the “Healthy Families Programme”. The project will utilise the £12,000 donated to train and equip coffee families in Western Honduras to live healthier, happier lives.
We are pleased to report that since the project began, 61 families (322 beneficiaries) in 2 communities (Cruz Alta and Mataras) have been receiving training on issues relating to health and hygiene in the home. The households most in need have also received new fuel efficient stoves, new water filters and new floors. The stoves will reduce the amount of wood required and produce less smoke in the ousehold, concrete floors will be easier to keep clean and the water filters will help remove pathogens and pollutants from the water supplies.
Peter Rodriguez, Executive Director of the Fundación, explained “We have trialled the project in other rural communities here where families need help in understanding basic sanitation and we have seen that by encouraging them to make small changes, which we take for granted, and giving them better equipment for their homes like water filters and fuel efficient stoves, it can make a huge difference to their quality of life."
We are delighted to see the project progress and to hear how lives are being positively impacted. We will keep you updated as the work progresses.
